Suffolk's Junior Road Safety Officer Scheme
What is it?
JRSO's are selected pupils (usually two pupils from year 4 and above) who work to with the support of an adult in school and the area Road Safety Officer. The role of a Junior Road Safety Officer is to raise awareness of road safety with their peers, school and wider community.
Why run it?
It is a proven way of involving the whole school in road safety activities and it allows schools to target road safety messages/activities relevant to their own school environment
What does the school need to do?
• Nominate an adult to support the JRSO's in school (typically a named TA, Parent or Governor)
• Make a notice board available.
•
Give space in your schools newsletter for the scheme, to address local road safety issues
What will the Road Safety Team do?
•
Arrange an induction meeting with the supporting adult and JRSO's
•
Help identify the main road safety needs/issues within your school and local area and plan appropriate targeted activities
•
Supply free resources
•
Support any road safety initiatives wherever possible

Junior Road Safety Officer of the Year Awards
All JRSO's are encouraged to keep a scrapbook of their activities for their year of 'office' and an annual award event takes place at Endeavour House, each year.
All Schools are encouraged to submit their books for consideration for an award and Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates are awarded to participating schools. |
