Bikeability Training Underway 23rd Feb 2010

Bikeability Training Group ‘Bikeability’ is the new cycling proficiency. The scheme is designed to give young cyclists the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads. All schools in Waveney and Ipswich with children aged 10-12 years are being encouraged to participate. A completion of course award consists of a badge, booklet, and a certificate.

Bikeability courses in Waveney are run by Cyclist Training Officer, Paul Westgate (pictured far right), who says: “Engaging with children’s interest in cycling helps to prepare them to be competent road users. We teach Bikeability Levels 1 and 2 which means that by the end of the course they will be able to make short trips on quiet roads to school or for leisure.

Ipswich courses are run by Road Safety Officer, John Showell, who says: “What children learn on this course will keep them safe now and in the future. Cycling is one of the healthiest and greenest ways to travel. More children cycling to school means less congestion on the roads and contributes to our aim of creating sustainability in our transport system.”

Suffolk County Council is a fully accredited Bikeability training authority. For more information about courses in Waveney and Ipswich email school cycling

The ‘Suffolk Young Cyclist Training Scheme’ continues to run alongside Bikeability.
