About Suffolk Safety Camera Partnership
Suffolk SafeCam is a partnership of organisations with one common objective: to reduce the number of collisions on Suffolk's roads and contribute to national casualty reduction targets. The partnership comprise;
Suffolk County Council
Highways Agency
Suffolk Constabulary
Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust
Suffolk Magistrates Court
Crown Prosecution Service
We aim to achieve safer roads for Suffolk by;
· Educating and changing driver's attitudes toward excess and inappropriate speed.
· Undertaking targeted fixed and mobile camera enforcement at specific locations and routes with a history of collisions involving killed or seriously injured casualties.
The results from cameras clearly demonstrate that they improve safety and are effective at reducing crashes. Suffolk SafeCam launched in 2003 and since enforcement began there has been there has been a massive 78% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured at camera sites (figures Sept 2007). In addition to the significant reduction in casualties, there has also been a reduction in the severity of injuries incurred.
Statistics on road crashes are detailed on our Road collision statistics page.
Education
The partnership undertakes campaigns that are aimed at informing road users of the dangers of excess and inappropriate speed. We also attend public events where members of the public have an opportunity to interact with staff and discuss our enforcement strategies and casualty reduction targets.

Enforcement
Both the fixed cameras and the mobile enforcement vehicles are highly visible. The presence of a safety camera warning sign should alert drivers to the fact that either fixed or mobile camera enforcement takes place in the area and that they are travelling on a road with a history of collisions.
