Crucial Crew
Introduced in 1994 to Suffolk schools by the Suffolk Community Safety Unit, the Crucial Crew programme aims to teach children how to tackle personal dangers and raises their awareness and abilities in a fun and effective way.
The scheme involves children, around 10 years old, touring theatre-style sets. Each set depicts a different emergency or dangerous situation and is accompanied by a story that the children then have to act out, making their own decisions to reach a conclusion. The scheme's realism is particularly appealing to children and provides them with a wide range of experiences through interactive teaching methods.
Crucial Crew events are organised by the District Councils and other interested parties for the schools in their local area.
The road safety team supports by attending events in Sudbury (April), Ipswich (June and September), Stowmarket (June/July), Bury St. Edmunds (July), Kessingland (November).
The Road Safety Officers provide and staff a scenario covering cycling and pedestrian safety.
Activity Book 2 supports the road safety scenario presented at Crucial Crew and so it is provided by the Road Safety Team to children attending "Crucial Crew".
