Pre-school road safety education

The road safety section of Suffolk County Council works in partnership with Suffolk Health in the distribution of the DfT publication 'Getting across Road Safety' 0-6 years. This publication is posted to all parents of 3-year-old children, providing parents and carers with the information to teach basic road skills to children in their care.

'Getting across Road Safety 0-6 years' is also distributed to childminders, Day Nurseries, Nursery Schools and Pre-school Playgroups through the Suffolk Childcare Information Service 'Mailout Service'.    Copies can be obtained through the free postal service from the DfT www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/

Pre-school Groups

All resources are provided free of charge, although some are offered on a returnable basis.   Your are Road Safety Officer will be happy to discuss your requirements and provide resources appropriate to your needs.

STREET FEET
A (returnable) interactive resource which include a 'roll out' road layout, traffic signs and illustrated vests so that the children can role play traffic and pedestrians.

A great 'learning through play' road safety resource.

FIRST STEPS TO ROAD SAFETY VIDEO
A (Returnable) video for Playgroup and Pre-school leaders

'TOGETHER WE GO'
A teaching guide with lots of helpful activity and craft ideas a helpful photocopiable letter home to help you and parents to reinforce simple road safety messages such as 'holding hands'.

COLOURING SHEETS
Photocopiable sheets for children to colour reinforcing simple road safety messages such as 'holding hands' and 'safe places to play', also includes various vehicles and 'people who help us'.

POSTERS
An assortment of posters can be provided, for display and interactive use.

Brownie and Cub groups
We are able to provide advice for any Brownie or Cub group to assist with your Road Safety activities.

We are also able to supply sample copies of the current Road Safety Packs for Brownies, Cubs and their leaders, and may be able to provide additional copies free of charge, depending on numbers requested.
