Driver training
Driver training promotes the benefits of a proactive approach to injury and crash reduction through the availability of driver education programmes for recreational and professional drivers.
Advice on driver training is available to the public and all local organisations who wish to improve the driving standards of their employees.
As an organisation we provide Defensive Driver Training to SCC staff, run National Driver Improvement Scheme courses for "due care and attention offenders" on behalf of Suffolk Constabulary and advise local businesses on "at-work" road safety issues through seminars, on site consultations and advisory reports.
The benefits of driver training for organisations include:
- lower crash and injury rates for employees;
- potential cuts in insurance premiums;
- less down time;
- savings in fleet running costs including maintenance and fuel;
- lower environmental impact upon the community leading to improved quality of life for all;
- a better environmental profile;
- fewer health and safety problems;
- fulfilling health and safety obligations; and
- spreading of information beyond the immediate client base.
The benefits for employees include:
- lower personal risk;
- increased driving confidence;
- lower stress levels;
- spreading of information to family and friends;
- greater awareness of individual responsibility with regard to other road users;
- better understanding of driver related health and safety issues;
- better personal fuel economy;
- reduced personal insurance claims
Suffolk County Council supports the work of advanced driving groups such as the Institute of Advanced Motorists and the Royal Society for the Prevention of
Accidents (RoSPA) by promoting their courses through the courses they run and in response to public enquiries.
